It is the only hospital in the area to receive this recognition, placing it in the same tier as Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins.

The recognition comes as The Summit continues to grow — adding fellowship-trained surgeons, expanding services, and building what it calls the region’s Center of Excellence for orthopedic, spine, and pain care. For patients in central and western Kansas, it means access to a nationally recognized standard of care without leaving home.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) also awarded Summit Surgical a five-star patient recommendation rating — its highest available — reflecting whether patients would recommend the hospital to family and friends. Only 21 Kansas hospitals earned five stars in this category.

The Summit’s surgical team is made up entirely of fellowship-trained specialists — physicians who have completed advanced subspecialty training beyond residency in the specific procedures they perform.
