Petite Girafe Montessori Academy Named 2026 Consumer Choice Award Winner for Private Schools in Surrey

Our measure of success is not grades or accolades, but the independence, compassion, and respect a child carries into the world long after they leave us.”
— Ethan Chang
SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA, August 13, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Petite Girafe Montessori Academy has been recognised with the 2026 Consumer Choice Award in the Private Schools category for Surrey, in addition to being one of only seven Montessori schools in British Columbia listed under the Association Montessori Internationale's (AMI) Montessori Quality Assurance (MQA) programme in Canada.

The South Surrey preschool, which serves children aged three to six, holds Member School status in the MQA programme alongside its associate, Lions Gate Montessori — a downtown Vancouver school carrying more than 27 years of Montessori practice across its North Creek and Anchor Point campuses. Together, the schools serve over 200 families from downtown Vancouver to South Surrey, spanning the primary (ages 3–6) and elementary (ages 6–12) years.

Petite Girafe equips its classrooms with authentic Montessori materials from Nienhuis, produced to AMI specifications, and furniture made from sustainably sourced Baltic birch. As an official partner school of Montessori Sports — the Netherlands-based movement programme developed in partnership with AMI — the academy integrates physical development into daily Montessori work rather than treating it as an add-on. It is also among the few preschools in the region to offer extended before- and after-care, with enrichment delivered by local specialists, including Seikido Dojo for martial arts, alongside French, Mandarin, yoga, and music.

The academy's teachers have completed formal Montessori training, and the faculty is deliberately multidisciplinary, drawing on backgrounds in occupational therapy and inclusive education. For children in their kindergarten year, BC-certified teachers ensure the programme also meets the British Columbia curriculum.

"This recognition belongs to our community," said Ethan Chang, Group Executive Director of The Nebulae Group of Montessori Schools. "Our measure of success is not grades or accolades, but the independence, compassion, and respect a child carries into the world long after they leave us. To be recognised for work that is, by its nature, patient and unhurried is a real honour."

Authentic Montessori education places the child, rather than academic achievement, at its centre. In a carefully prepared environment, teachers observe each child closely and follow their emerging interests, offering the right work at the right moment so that competence and confidence develop together.

The Consumer Choice Award recognises business excellence through an independent research process that evaluates brand reputation, customer satisfaction, and service quality.
